Okay boys and girls, I got anther couple of rolls of 120 film back from the lab today. I shot two rolls of Kodak Portra Neutral Color 160, and a roll of Kodak T-Max 100 while I was in Vegas for the Wedding and Portrait Photographers International convention. I focused mainly on out of the way places, within a block or so of the main strip. It’s amazing how fast the glits and glamor of Vegas falls off when you walk a few hundred feet from Las Vegas Blvd. It was also a nice way to get away from all the hustle and bustle of the trade show and workshops, and take a little time for myself.
I found this fellow in a huge empty lot just off the strip, post BBQ. He was camping out during a cross country road trip. He told me his father just died, and he was using the money his dad left him to cruise coast to coast in a little RV. After chatting for a little while he allowed me to take his portrait. So I did, then wished him a safe trip, and I was on my way.
I must have waited 15 minutes for the wind to kick up and bring life to this sheet. Whenever I visit Nevada I’m always troubled by the copious amounts of trash that litters the desert. I just don’t understand the mentality that tolerates the deliberate misuse of public land.
Flights every minute, on the minute. The Las Vegas Airport is a constant presence.
I also took a moment to do a quick diptic (two photo panoramic) self portrait in the hotel hallway.
Don’t be afraid to slow down, look around, and take a picture.
